A situation where denim is not appropriate attire

Yesterday was 43 degrees Celsius (110 Fahrenheit). Today, and tomorrow are also forecast to be 43. It isn't 9am and we're already 34 degrees.

Levi Strauss & Co. by Lynn Downey

I noticed this book on amazon:

I haven't seen it before. It looks interesting.
Does anyone have it? Is it worth getting?

Brit Eaton: Hunting for Vintage Denim

Outside Magazine has an article written by Steven Rinella about vintage denim hunter Brit Eaton from Carpe Denim.

Here's the article:
http://outside.away.com/outside/culture/200901/brit-eaton-hunting-for-vintage-denim-1.html

You may remember seeing Brit in the Blue Jean Confidential documentary by CBC.

It's quite an exciting article with interesting stories about remote places and funny characters.

Perhaps when I get through my shelf of reading material I might get Rinella's book on the American Bison/Buffalo.

Nautical: Necklace

In a slight departure from denim, I'm doing to do a series of posts on nautical fashion.

My office is near the workshop of William Llewellyn Griffiths, who makes some really quite spectacular jewelery. Items like this ship with crossed pistols keep me visiting his store like it is an art gallery.

You can view more of his works on his web site metalcouture.

Whilst I like the mariner themes with ships, skulls, pistols and flaming hearts of his jewelery... it is all too big for me to wear. I eventually asked about getting something made, and selected a simple small anchor (it's around 1cm across). It's actually part of a larger ship necklace that he makes. He polished it and set on a chain for me.

I'm very happy with this small trinket. Actually, I just realised that it has been around my neck for one year now, and this was the first time I have taken it off.

Vito Corleone Wardrobe

The Godfather II has some great period clothing.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071562/
Robert De Niro as Vito Corleone sports some nice caps, braces, long johns, shirts with a variety of collars (big, rounded, and no collar).

You should dress like this when you are starting your own underground organised criminal society.
Check out the Godfather series if you haven't seen it before. It's on blu-ray if you have the hardware.

On a side note: I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which has some interesting wardrobe viewing.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421715/
"Filmmakers worked closely with Levi's to obtain clothing items from their Levi's Vintage Clothing collection to authenticate various time periods captured throughout the film."

If you're time-poor, then I'd recommend watching the Godfather rather than Benjamin Button.
